Region and History

The town of Freudenberg (www.freudenberg-main.de) has an idyllic location right on the River Main between Miltenberg and Wertheim. There are approximately 30,000 small distilleries and micro-distilleries in this region of Baden Württemberg.
Gastronomically too the region has a great deal to offer. In Klingenberg Ingo Holland has cooked his way to a Michelin star in his restaurant  “Zum Alten Rentamt” (www.altes-rentamt.de). He is a good friend of the house of Ziegler and does the catering for all guests at the Ziegler distillery.
Nearby in Bürgstadt are Paul Fürst´s vineyards. The Gault Millau guide awarded him the title Wine-maker of the Year 2003. Paul Fürst has a national reputation for his excellent red wines (www.weingut-rudolf-fuerst.de).

Ziegler was founded in 1865 as a brewery with the right to distil. Today the distillery remains on the original site. The former tavern has been converted to accommodation for the master distiller.

In May 2003 a shop was opened in the distillery. Visitors can now make a tour of the distillery with its distilling equipment and gain an impression of the Ziegler product range.
